It was a tiny voice he heard calling him down from the roof he was tirelessly scrambling up on his quest for a better vantage point, unaware his white hood was like a beacon to the little boy. Every father knows that tone, that of their child calling to him specifically, calling for daddy. He tears off from his task, turning his gaze down into the street, and onto the little boy, onto the familiar figure settled on that low wall, her baby screeching to the high heavens.
"Maria? Maria!"
Cue his quick descent, his darting across the street to meet her. "Maria, is that you?"

"Oh thank god, Desmond! I was hoping- oh please Sef, calm down, it's alright..."
Darim, realising that it's not Baba running towards them, has suddenly gone shy and goes scurrying back to her mother and clings warily to her leg, peering at Desmond with all the curiosity of a kitten.

"I'm so happy to see you." There's so much he's got to tell her, but first... "But I see someone didn't take too well to the journey, did they?" Poor, wailing Sef, and poor Maria's nerves.

She eagerly kisses her grandson back, her joy at seeing him not at all diminished by the dark shadows under her eyes or the slight pallor in her cheeks. Her hands clasp his and squeeze fondly for the briefest of moments before Sef's howls grow even louder and she ruefully frees herself to hold the baby closer and drop a kiss to his head.
"I'm sorry, your little grandfather hasn't quite realised yet that being awake isn't half as terrible as he makes it out to be. That or he's hungry again." Sef is not a small baby, but he is quite small enough at only four weeks, and quite obsessed with sleeping and eating, and not always in that order. "This is not a good way to make a first impression, little man."
"Shef's loud," Darim agrees solemnly and with all the gravity a two and a half year old can muster.
