What: The MINGLE LOG for Week One of the Asgard Eventide Reunion!
When: March 1-7

Rating: PG-13 tops! Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please.

[ OOC NOTES: Whether you're making a return to the city or this is your first time setting foot into Asgard, the gods and Natives alike sure are happy to see you. You can feel free to make your own headers, create your own events, or post your own logs elsewhere as you please. Please put [OPEN/CLOSED] along with the time/location of your character in the title of your comment.

As a note: we were super fortunate to have a few of our old NPC handlers volunteer to pick up their old Gods for the reunion! We currently have Hel, Heimdall, Baldr, Thor, Freyr, Mimir, Honir, Asgard!Loki, and also Frigg available for threading. If you'd like to request an appearance from one of these kids, please say so in the title of your comment. Some of us may make our own top-level as well, so be on the lookout for that! A million thanks to our NPC team for being so fantastic, we love and appreciate you so much.

It feels like an arrow is piercing his heart. He can't agree that it is inevitable, but he knows the truth. Maglor isn't lying and he has seen...

"You are the last." the absolute last connection he has to their once thriving family, "I was the last for you."

And he had died rather than -

Now he sees. He wraps his arms around Maglor and holds them close.

[bythewaves]

"Yes." Maglor also doesn't lie. Bend the truth and leave things out, spin things just so, yes. But never outright lie, not to his brother.

"Ssh. It's alright Nelyo. I understand. Truly, I do. It's alright."

Maglor clings back as if drowning, for all his comforting words. He has missed his brother, he will always miss his brother.

"Understanding changes nothing. The pain is the same." Maedhros feels the clinging and strokes over Maglor's hair, "I'm here with you now. Promises are not mine to make or keep, but this is real."

He needs to be strong too. Even if Maglor is happier, that doesn't mean the past has faded or been forgotten.

[bythewaves]

Maglor all but melts into the stroking, humming softly back to his brother.

"It is. But I do not wish you to blame yourself for what could not be helped. I want you to be happy, Nelyo. Please."

His brother has such soft, lovely hair. Some might scoff, but one of the things Maedhros misses the most is having the ability to braid the dark hair - and his own.

"I am happy with you. How could I be otherwise?"

[bythewaves]

Maglor misses that too, but this, this he dreams of sometimes still, those quiet times when they could simply sit, and Maedhros ran fingers through his hair to lull him to sleep.

"I want you to be happy without me too, Nelyo. I want you to be able to smile again, to sing again, to laugh again. I want you to heal. Please Nelyo, promise me. When you go home, take the chances offered to you - I am sure there will be, for you who gave up so much."

Maedhros is touched by the plea. His lips find the crown of Maglor's head and he kisses the soft hair and skin.

"I cannot see chances, but I have not looked for them." he draws out the hair from behind Maglor's ear, smoothing over it too, "I will look this time." and maybe he can find...contentment.

Surely happiness is beyond him.

[bythewaves]

Maglor leans into him and all but purrs, content to be babied a little.

"There must be. I must believe that it is so. I want you to be happy, Nelyo."

He welcomes him with a soft smile, grateful Maglor is willing - after all of his mistakes - to forgive him. Though he knows his younger brother well enough to realize he likely blames himself somehow.

How silly they could be!

"I'm going to start with you. I didn't appreciate you nearly enough."

[bythewaves]

"You appreciated me plenty."

Maglor swats him fondly.

"So the first thing you can do is stop apologising for things you cannot help"

"Then let me appreciate you more." Maedhros grins at the swat, "I can help it. My head feels clearer here."

[bythewaves]

Maglor huffs and leans against him.

"It is because these are ... not quite are normal bodies, here, I suspect. They are as much like as can be, so that we do not feel too discomfited, but I always wondered how deep the fire in our blood ran. Our spirits are ... quieted here."

[castintoflames]

His brow furrows and he looks down at himself quizzically.

"The gods have transformed us to better fit in this world?" it is unnerving in a way and yet...

"Perhaps our bodies are not what is changed."

Instead, it is their fëas which are quieted - as Maglor said.

[bythewaves]

"Mmhmm. I cannot hear the Song here. And... these bodies are mortal. They take ill and crumble exactly as do mortals. Tis because of the nature of the place, we were told - tis why you are assigned to a god when you arrive - the closer the resonance of your fëar to theirs, the better, for they are the ones who sustain your presence here."

[castintoflames]

Mortality doesn't frighten him. Other Elves might be terrified of the notion, but Maedhros can see the beauty of living one lifetime well and passing from the world. He is certain Maglor can understand and appreciate it too.

"Thor can set his sights on others. Mortality is a fair trade for some peace."

[bythewaves]

And now Maedhros understands the choice that Maglor has made - to stay here, to be mortal, to follow his fosterlings on that last road.

"Oh, you will die eventually if you stay, brother. These bodies are mortal. They age." Guess how he knows this.

"But the resonance will let you... gain certain abilities. Depending. I was bound to Freyr - still am, I think. His abilities are very like my own. Thor is... strength, I think. And flight."

[castintoflames]

"I should like to see myself old!" he jests, resting their heads together, "You too, Kano. Silver and white in your hair... Wrinkles..."

Maedhros will love his brother no matter his age.

"Music? I do not think you need his aid in that arena." those are the words of a proud older brother, "I can always use more strength, but flight?"

A flying Fëanorian? Does anyone need that?

[bythewaves]

"I think you would look distinguished!" Maglor defends.

"Or... possibly like someone had shaken snow through your hair." He adds slyly.

He chuckles softly. "I think you are biased there, Nelyo. And I do not know... I think it might be... interesting." Or amusing.

[castintoflames]

"Thank you -" he narrows his eyes playfully a moment later, "Snow on copper autumn leaves, perhaps?"

As opposed to snow or silver on Maglor's ebony strands. His eyes widen and he whispers:

"Will we grow beards?" well that is almost exciting! "I am biased, but I am not clouded by it."

Does that even make sense? Sure it does, shhh.

"No one needs someone as tall as I am flying."

[bythewaves]

"Ooh, I could write something about that." Maglor hums thoughtfully and then laughs.

"I did not, the last time. But perhaps I was not here long enough?"

A smirk. "Oh I think it would be interesting to see - why, you could see even higher than normal!"

[castintoflames]

"As long as I can hear it first." Maedhros taps Maglor's nose to bring his attention back to him, "We have a goal. The first one to grow a beard will...?" he sits back, frowning pensively, "What will be the stakes? Will you make me fly?"

Please don't make him fly, Kano.

[bythewaves]

Maglor blinks, refocusing on Maedhros.

"The first one to grow a beard." He nods obediently "...can... write a song about it!"

Then Maglor appears to work out what his brother is saying and frowns at him.

"But you aren't staying. You're going home, Nelyo. There are people for you to look after."

[castintoflames]

"Not yet; not soon." Maedhros is insistent, hugging Maglor tighter, "I want to see this world and your family."

If and when he returns, he will accept it. But the opportunities there are slim; the chances of something positive finding him are even slimmer.

[bythewaves]

Maglor curls instinctively into his hold despite the scowl.

"Alright. But you promised, remember - that you would look for happiness."

[castintoflames]

Happiness... What does that look like on Arda? Maedhros isn't sure.

But a promise is a promise.

"One step at a time." he whispers. He has to find his way. He has to find a new path.

"I need to...consider."
